Day 4

February 18, 2013 - Leaving Pinetree Lake

As is standard practice for Algonquin Park interior tripping, our out day had perfect weather.

Beautiful day, must be time to leave.

It was still cold though, which made it real easy to empty the water bucket.

We started the long packing up process after we’d had our coffee. All the tent contents had to be rolled up and packed away. Then the wood stove taken out and the tent shoveled out and packed up. It’s quite a while to get things packed back on the sleds and the site gone over to make sure nothing is left behind. I’m glad all the people I camp with make such an effort to Leave No Trace.

Then there was nothing left but to start the walk out, with hopefully slightly lighter toboggans.

We’d heard wolves the night before so we were looking for tracks on the way out. There were a lot of animal tracks along the way and we did see some wolf tracks that followed our trail from the way in for a short distance. Near the start of the portage we saw some unique tracks, I’m not sure exactly what they are from.

We made short work of the portage, despite stopping for pictures every now and then. There was a couple with a young child along the trail and we said hello to them.

A quick drive to Huntsville for a greasy hamburger and the trip was officially finished. I said goodbye to the other guys and headed home. Only half joking I asked if we were doing this again next weekend!
