Day 4

February 20, 2012 - Travelling Out

We were up and at it early today, our last day. Coffee and an oatmeal breakfast was quickly consumed and we began packing up our gear and tearing down the tent. Two surprises this morning. First, it was a frosty -23 C when we poked our head out the tent and secondly, Sean R walked into camp just as we nearly finished packing up. He had traveled up to Algonquin Park and walked in just to walk back out with us.

We began the walk out about 9 AM, given the cold temperatures and the established trail we decided snow shoes wouldn’t be required on the portage out. It was easy going with a nice track for the toboggans to ride in, we were on the shore of Cache Lake in less than an hour. A short break to have some water and we made it across a sunny ice covered Cache Lake in another hour and a half or so.

Wasn’t long and we were at the access point. We finally managed to catch up with the skiers whose tracks we had seen all weekend. They were cottagers who we spent a few minutes talking with as we loaded up our vehicles. A quick stop at Timmie’s in Huntsville and I was on my home. Another great winter interior camping weekend in Algonquin Park complete.

For those people who wonder what it’s like camping in Algonquin Park, or anywhere, in the winter. Sometimes it’s like this.
